Georgia Tech offers a large selection of textual resources as seen by its collection of books and magazines, but many are unaware of Tech’s extensive electronic resources. From research databases such as JSTOR to ProQuest Research Library, the library website hosts a long list of online databases that supply information on any topic. One site called LexisNexis Academic provides comprehensive searches of Major U.S. and World Publications as well as TV Radio Broadcast Transcripts. While exploring the site’s search capabilities, I came across an article from The New York Times that recounted a writer’s visit to Midtown, Georgia. Its strong ties to the neighborhood evaluation project caught my attention. The writer described the places he visited and reasons why Midtown was a great town due to the absence of sprawl. Evoking the readers’ visual senses with colorful descriptions like, “inline skaters, who slalom through orange cones near the 12th Street entrance,” the author paints an image that readers may recreate. Supporting his claim with compelling evidence and great detail, this professional neighborhood evaluation satisfied many of the expectations that were attached to our assignment. Although the article is informal and brief, it offers a convincing argument why Midtown is “hip and sophisticated.”
