Brookhaven - Sarah Jackson

Located in the North-East edge of Atlanta, Brookhaven is an interesting mix between old neighborhoods and new sprawl. It was the first planned neighborhood in the Atlanta area. It would make a great place to raise a family but does not really support the night life of a young adult.

A big plus for me was that the MARTA station takes you right to the heart of Brookhaven. It was very easy to get to from GT. Around the station there were a lot of new stores being built and plenty of shopping that you could walk to.

The neighborhoods are varied in type. They have single-family homes, town houses, and apartments. In the neighborhood that I spent time in there were kids playing outside and they roads were wide and side walked. The houses were all new but built on the old lots and they had nice big yards and every house looked different. It had a club house with a pool and and tennis courts and a golf course. People could walk to the recreation from their houses.

One of the downsides for me was that the main roads were busy and to get to shopping and the MARTA you had to drive on the main roads. However, unlike a traditional collector road it was possible to get to many different neighborhoods and types of houses without entering the main road.

If you did need to travel a long distance the highway was conveniently located to the neighborhoods and shopping.
